Obituary of MabelJean Finley

MabelJean Finley. 67 years old, of New Windsor, NY, passed away July 20th, 2023, at North Shore University Hospital with family at her side and in the thoughts and prayers of family and friends near and far. Mabel worked many years as the kennel manager at Colby Kennels, where she grew love and attention for the welfare of animals. She cared for not only the communities’ pets, but for homeless dogs seeking loving homes. She worked closely with a few local rescues over the years where she fostered and help train shelter pets for future homes. In the most recent years Mabel volunteered with Bleu’s K9 Rescue where she played a huge role in helping rehome and find temporary and permanent homes for local rescue dogs. She became an active dog foster even after adopting one of her own, Minnie. She was a rescue board member for the most recent years. Not just a dog lover, Mabel had a love for horses and even used her strong maternal role as an expert baby goat feeder at Edgwick Farm during kidding season. This was one of her most cherished past times; she grew a deep love for her babies and the herd. This past year despite health issues and setbacks she made it a point to keep up with her “babies” even though she could not volunteer. Mabel was a dedicated and devoted mother. She took pride in her children, their accomplishments, their families and found great joy in having her grandchildren around her. Her absence will be greatly felt in both the animal community, as well as her family. MabelJean is predeceased by her husband Patrick C. Finley Sr. in 2019. She is survived by their 4 children and their spouses Patrick and Kerri Finley Jr., Barry and Stasia Finley, Dellyn and Kenny Deyo, Casey and Heather Finley. She had 8 grandchildren Patrick, James, Colin, Kayleigh, Devin, Aiden, Dillon, and Isla, whom she cherished dearly. MabelJean is also survived by her brother Barry VanHouten Jr, sister Barentina Oliver, brothers Daniel and Esler VanHouten, brother-in-law Maurice (Mickey) Finley, cousins, many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. Visitation is Sunday July 30th, 2023, from 4-7pm with memorial services at 6:30pm at the Hudson Valley Funeral Home Inc., 239 Quassaick Avenue New Windsor, NY 12553.
