Obituary of Maria Zoila Carmona

Maria Zoila Carmona of Wallkill, New York, passed away on Friday July 19, 2024 at Mount Sinai Hospital located in the City of New York. She was 87 years old. Maria was born on March 7, 1937, in Placetas, Cuba to the late Francisco Gonzalez and Zoila Rojas. She immigrated to the United States in 1962, along with her husband and son. Maria was an avid gardener and was particularly talented at growing roses. She was also a bird-lover, especially hummingbirds. Maria brought with her from Cuba a love of and gift for cooking traditional Cuban cuisine, and she delighted friends and family with her creations. Maria was a member of Saint Patrick’s Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and Cursillista. She is predeceased by her husband, Mariano. Maria is survived by her two children, Jorge Carmona and Jacqueline Cook as well as two grandchildren, Valentina and Sebastian Carmona. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m., at Hudson Valley Funeral Home, 239 Quassaick Avenue, New Windsor, New York. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick’s Church in Newburgh, New York. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor, New York
